Dear Aunt Weimie FAQ - Section 7

Letters, questions and answers to the WCA Webmasters Commentary in this section is the opinion of Aunt Weimie and does not necessarily constitute the opinion of the Weimaraner Club of America.

Section Seven Topics:
Longevity - How long do Weimaraners live?
  • Q. What is the lifespan of Weimaraners? Our beloved Becky (Rebecca Elizabeth) is 16 years, 4 months, and going strong! We have been told by vets that the breed tends to live 7-10 years. Therefore, we wonder if we have been extra-blessed! Please tell us more.
A.Yes, indeed, you are extra blessed to have the dog live this long! The average is about 12 to 14 years for a healthy Weim. The common cause of death before this age is bloat in an otherwise healthy dog. The record that we know of is 18 years. It would be wonderful if you could send me a picture of Rebecca Elizabeth.
  • St.Francis

Addendum: Rebecca Elizabeth passed away in September of 2000 at the very ripe old age of 17 years. We only wish all Weimies had such happy long lives!! Many thanks to her people for sharing these photos and her story with us.
