We
came back late Sunday evening and the next weekend we were off
again to Germany for the second VGP in one week. There were eight
Weimaraners entered and two of them were American imports, Windy
and her brother from the same litter, The Rise and Grayshar's
Royal Heir. His call name is Roy and his handler is Mr. Rob Theel.
I can not tell you much about Roy's work because we were in different
groups, but as they are brother and sister we have noticed that
in their work they do look alike very much.
It must have been the experience Windy got in Austria, still
fresh in her mind, but Windy performed even better here. The blood
track was no problem at all. The fieldwork was beautiful, she
made points on pheasant
as well as on hare and was steady on both hare and pheasant. She
got all fours except on two subjects. At the driven shoot, I kept
her on the line and started with a 3 instead of a 4. I was warned
if she ran off, as she had tried in Austria, we would get a zero
and we would be out! The second 3 was my fault. I still had a
fox that was used in Austria and it smelled awful. She retrieved
the fox, this time not over a fence, but over a ditch and dropped
the fox at my feet. We all could smell why she did!
What made it special in Germany was not only Windy's first prize
and her high points, but also the fact both Windy and her brother
Roy from the same litter did so well. And, one of the breeders
of Windy and Roy, Mrs. Sharon Hartmann, was present. She video
taped the work of both dogs and took a lot of pictures. They both
earned their VGP. It must be the first time two American Weimaraners
out of the same litter passed this test together. It shows that
in the USA not only beautiful show Weimaraners are bred, but also
Weimaraners that perform well in both the show ring and in the
field! Two German Weimaraners in Roy's group were excluded after
they got a 0 (one dog) and a 1 (the other dog) for the searching
of the wood (stöbern im Wald).
Windy and Roy were the only two (out of eight Weims) that scored
the maximum points on the subject. Searching the wood and the
fine results on the fieldwork must have been the influence of
their American field and show mother, Dual Champion Wynwoods Rain
on the Rise. We are very proud of these results, a first prize
with 319 out of the maximum of 324 points for Windy and a third
prize for her brother Roy with 265 points and his handler Rob
Theel.
